Marble Fireplaces can be purchased with or without a back panel or hearth. Sometimes all you require is a fire surround frame to be used with an inglenook fire or stove. It is possible to purchase our entire range of marble Fireplaces with or without a back panel or hearth.

Modifying bespoke marble fireplace surround

If you will be using the fire surround with an inglenook fire or stove, then the daylight opening (which is the difference between the two fireplace columns) is important. The daylight opening will determine what type of fire you can have and how much of a fire chamber is shown. As a direct manufacture of Marble Fireplaces, we are able to modify all our fire surrounds and make any fire surround with any custom opening that you require. To ordering bespoke marble fireplace surround (without a back panel and hearth) simply pick whichever design you like from our website and contact us for a quote without a back panel and hearth. Typically we are able to give a discount of up to £75 if you do not want us to supply the back panel and hearth which comes as part of the standard package we offer.

Suitability of marble fireplace surrounds for use with solid fuel

Marble is inelegant, sophisticated material that looks wonderful when used to manufacture a marble fireplace. However, marble is not suitable for use with solid fuel (burning wood or coal). The intense heat created by solid fuel Crack the marble. If you will be using a marble fire surround without a back panel or hearth and there is no direct heat source on the marble then the fire surround is suitable for use with solid fuel. Marble Fireplaces can also be adapted to be used with solid fuel if they undergo a process called slabbing. Slabbing involves cutting the back panel and hearth into three sections and rejoining it. This creates a purposely created expansion and contraction joint that prevents the back panel and hearth from cracking. The back of the hearth and panel are also filled with cement which again increases its heat resistance.
